Do you think Cysts on the brain are normal?

my daughter has been suffering from headaches for the past year, more increasingly the last few months, she has been given meds for allergies, which made it worse, her glasses have been strenghtened but nothing is helping, The pediatrician ordered a CT of the brain, and the result was a small cyst on the brain which she thought it was nothing to worry about. I am taking her to a neurologist , but still don't think cysts are normal, what if it bursts.

Cysts on the brain are definitely not normal. If it bursts, that is actually a better thing than it not doing so. Anything that takes up space inside the cranium that is not your brain is a potential problem. Fluid can be absorbed, but a solid cyst can grow and cause pressure on the brain.





Because your daughter is symptomatic, I would take her to a neurosurgeon, not a neurologist. He/she will know what to do. It is important to find out what is causing the cyst. It could be congenital (born with it), or the result of trauma or infection. The neurosurgeon will be the best one to figure out what is in there and what to do with it.

Reply:A cyst is nothing more than fibrous tissue that keeps creating new tissue over the same spot again and again.Usually due to a trauma to that part of the body. It has nothing in it but maybe a little tiny bit of water so it cannot burst. It could be putting pressure on areas of importance though which is why a neurologist is a good idea to rule out anything abnormal.
Reply:I don't think that anything on the brain that is not suppose to be there is normal. I would definitely have second or third opinions.
Reply:A cyst is a bag of fluid; and CT cannot visualize it well, rather get an MRI. Go see the Neurologist as the brain has no extra room to spare for anything. As such, a growing cyst would create headache!! Best wishes!
Reply:It is probably a colloid cyst, genetic in type, and no treatment is necessary unless the ventricles become obstructed with hydrocephalus.

Reply:Cysts don't burst but they do grow bigger. I don't know why the doctors are not concerned unless it is inoperable.
