Oh and....[ovarian cysts]?

i read that a side effect for an ovarian cyst is weight gain :/

and i read that birth control pills prevent cysts.

but do the pills also cause weight gain?

Oh and....[ovarian cysts]?
An ovarien cyst will not cause weight gain. This is in no way related to the effects of your metabolism or anything dealing withy our appetite. My mother just had an ovarien cyst the size of a basketball removed, we bacome experts at this. The only thing that could affect you is the possibility of having the ovary totaly removed due to complications with the cyst. These would throw off a few of your hormones possibly causing weight loss or gain. Birth control risks your chance of cancer greatly in the future and it also is known to cause weight gain. Once again this is due to throwing off your hormones. Its not the cyst making these women gain weight its the effects its having on the ovary!
Reply:pills can cause weight gain but i think a lot of women just blame weight gain on the pill---i lost weight when i was on it but i had horrible horrible mood swings
Reply:the pills help prevent the cysts because they prevent you from ovulating which is the start of your cyst. Some people gain weight on the pill...But I lost weight on it so...Not all the side effects happen to everyone.
Reply:I questioned the same thing. I have ovarian cysts ..and YES they cause weight gain. It is not really the cysts, it prevents you from ovulating, which messes up your menstral cycle..which makes you not have your period. Also, polycystic ovarian sydrom messes with your pancreas and the ability to break down sugars..that is one of the main causes. Usually, they will prescribe you birth control to help your hormones, to make you start having regular periods. Along with that, they will prescribe you something to regulate your pancreas (Metformin, Glucophage). That helps you lose a little. I am not a doctor, but I live with it, and have for some time. The doc also told me cysts can break on their own.
Reply:I have PCOS and they put me on the pill.

Cysts do cause weight gain. Birth Control CAN cause weight gain, but with all medications, it effects different people differently because of their individual body chemistry and hormones. There are also many different types of birth control that you can try that will work differently. Talk to your gyno to see what you can do.

Also, the change in hormones may cause you to eat more. That is usually the cause of weight gain with the pill or other BC. If you are mindful of what you eat you shouldn't have a problem, and even more so if the pill itself makes you gain weight.

In my opinion, it is better to gain a little weight (don't get the BC shot, that makes you gain a LOT of weight... my Mom gained 40 lbs in a month... and a lot of my friends who tried it had similar problems) than to have the ovarian cyst. It can pop and you may need surgery or may not be able to have children one day, depending.

Good luck to you!
Reply:Weight gain with cyst can occur...Especially is you have PCOS. Poly cystic ovarian syndrome. Yes they will tell you to get on the pill cause it regulates the period and helps with cyst problems. Birth control pills for some people can cause weight gain and others it may cause weight loss. If you feel bad because of the cyst and this helps you will likely be more active because you feel better and therefore you will probably lose weight and a lot of people eat more when they hurt in their stomach and if you are experiencing pain with your cyst this could also cut down on eating but on the other hand if you don't have these problems there is a small chance you could gain weight but its only averages like a pound a year average. Talk to your doctor about options there are so many birth control pills.
