I have a huge mass of something on my wrist (maybe a cyst or sis??). It runs in my family but it is hurting..

I have had it since I was small (it comes and goes), but it has never been to the degree that it is now, its huge and it looks like a bone is sticking out of my wrist (its not, but still). Its really hurting... what should I do? (until I can get to the doctor, for tonight.)

Any advice would be very helpful.

It sounds like a ganglion cyst. Check out this site and see if this is what it looks like. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganglion_cy...
Reply:you have a benign cyst that is loosely called, bible cycst. The doctor will smash it with his 'reflex hammer' and it will be gone. In old days, a bible was used to crush it with one whack. Apply an ice pack for 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off. Do not use hand, as this irritates the nerve bundle that is pinched because of the cycst. Good luck
Reply:If it feels cystic (bouncy, rubbery) it could be a ganglion which is basically a cyst that people often develop in the soft tissues around the wrist. If they get to be too big or push on vital structures (eg: nerves, blood vessels) you can have them surgically removed. Or you can have a doctor try to drain it with a needle...doctors may inject steroids when they do this. Regardless they often come back.

BE CAREFUL.....there are other masses which turn out to be cancer.....so I'd let your doctor take a look at it. A wrist MRI or ultrasound would likely definitively characterize the mass.
