Anyone w/ knowledge on ovarian cysts?

I have been told that I have an ovarian cyst. The Ob/Gyn told me that it is fluid-filled and has some tissue. He assured me repeatedly that it was not cancer (because I'm such a worry wart). Anyway, I've had cysts before that have ruptured and there's no mistaking them. The only sx. I had then was the pain. This time though, I feel the pressure in my hip and low-back. It's been there for a couple of mos. The doc told me that there was no time limit on when it will go away. Should I take BCP's? Will this go away w/o rupturing? Why do all the sx. of ovarian cysts sound like ovarian cancer? Am I just being paranoid? The doctor reassured me that I'm too young for cancer and I have no family history of female cancers (I'm 33).

Anyone w/ knowledge on ovarian cysts?
You are never too young for cancer, but chances are your doctor has checked you out and you are in the clear. I had to go on BCP's for the same exact reason. When I started them I never had any troubles with cysts after that. I would recommend going on them, not only does it take care of the cysts, my periods became lighter.
Reply:I was recently diagnosed with the same problems. I have poly-cystic ovaries and i have the bad back pain and hip pain. I am in the process of having blood work done and sonograms to figure out if i can go on BCP's , after hearing from the docotor and the both of you i think it will be fine. I am actually looking forward to it b/c i am in so much pain all of the time. I cant even do sit ups or some times i cant even bend down to pick something up. I have never had one erupt yet and i was told that i have nothing to worry about when it comes to cancer. I guess if the doctor is telling you not to worry, then you shouldnt.
Reply:There is no such thing as too young for cancer, but ovarian cysts are not cancer and they won't become cancer. I had numerous ovarian cysts over many years in my teens. They were very painful, especially when they ruptured. But they are not harmful to your health.





I would get one, it would hurt off and on for a while then it would rupture and it would hurt like hell. Then I would be fine for a few weeks or months, then another one would grow. I went to several doctors and had surgery 3 times to remove them, but they would grow back. So finally my gynocologist asked if she could try something she hadn't heard of before and I said yes. She took me in for surgery but instead of removing the cyst she put a needle in it an drained all the fluid out. The membrane collapsed on itself and formed scar tissue that prevented the cyst from growing back. I have never had a problem with them since then.
Reply:a family history does not put you more at rist for ovarian cancer-- my mom's doctor told her the same thing and she said that ovarian cancer doesn't run in families and he said "I see you've been doing your research." And no body is too young for cancer.


Did he order a test called CA-125? If he didn't, ask him to. If he won't, get another doctor.
