About a month ago I was diagnosed with at least one 2cm cyst on each ovary. I have an appointment with a gyn on the 7th for the cancer testing and all. I recently got my period and the pain has been overwhelming. Normaly I have pain free periods. Can anyone tell me if all this pain is more than likley from the cysts? Also, any remedies to ease the pain? I have a one yr old and am not keen on the idea of being doped up on pain killers even though my family doc has already offered me a perscription, knowing the pain I have been in. Any advice?
Ovarian cysts?
My niece was suffering from polycystic ovaries, preventing her from getting pregnant. The doctor confirmed the diagnosis by use of a fasting blood insulin test. I highly suggest that for you, because if you have high insulin production, it is a precursor for a lot more than just polycystic ovaries.
If the doctor won't order the test, ask the doctor to prescribe it - because you can take the prescription to a blood lab and pay cash - ask for a cash discount - may be $80-100. I suggest you go to a "Quest" lab - or any lab that does this test daily (not just once a month) as it has to be done right. If the result is 10 or higher, that may be indicative of high insulin.
I would not recommend drugs until this test is done. The birth control shot (Depo-Provera) switched me into diabetes from low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
My sister's mother in law (a nurse who believed in homeopathic medicine) turned me on to raspberry for my ovarian cyct problem. I chose to go with the raspberry capsules, but drinking (unpre-sweetened) raspberry tea is supposed to help soften the cysts naturally. E-mail me if you want to know more about this method. I firmly believe it kept me from having cysts.
Reply:Doctor's usually prescribe birth control pills. For some reason this allows the cysts to shrink and prevents future cysts from forming.
Reply:My sister had an ovarian cyst and she did have quite a lot of pain and apart from aspirin or paracetomol nothing helped much. Her cysts were much larger than your and they had to be removed, hers were the size of a hens egg. If its any consolation she made a rapid recovery with no after effects
