Treating ovarian cysts?

I have been on birth control for 2 years and have now been diagnosed with ovarian cysts. From knowing the symptoms after researching, I started having symptoms as long as 1 1/2 - 2 yrs ago. The pain has increased greatly and it feels like the one on my right ovary has grown quite a bit, since my last ultrasound in September. I have tried to narrow down what possible disorders I could have, including PSOC and endometriosis, but I have a few symptoms that I don't see listed for either, such as my pelvic area (possibly my uterus) hardening and becoming sore and my right pelvic area (probably where the ovary is located) swelling and forming a lump that can be seen by a normal person. I am not technically on birth control to treat them, even though it is usually supposed to help. What all treatments are available, other than surgery to remove the cyst or the entire ovary?

To begin with, there may be no reason to remove the ovary. All too often people believe that is the solution. I had similar symptoms and my doctor did a diagnostic laporoscopic surgery to determine the cause of my pain. Turned out not only did I have a cyst on one of my ovaries, but I also had endometriosis. My cyst was filled with blood and the doctor drained it and I have had no problem since. The endometriosis is another story for another time. But let's just say I still have all of my organs in my body and no more cyst.





Talk to your doctor about this. There are wonderful medications on the market now that can reduce size which will in turn reduce the pain in ovarian cysts. Your PCP probably won't know so much about these, but your OB/GYN will. He/She may want to do the same type of surgery I had. If you have it done, fill out Advanced Directive to Physician which has a section where you give your doctor explicit instructions on what they can and cannot do during surgery. I told mine that the only way he was to remove anything without waking me up was if there was no doubt it was cancer and then take anything affected.

Reply:you cannot treat Ovarian assists, you may be able to do things that relieve the pain however if you have a serious problem with them then you may need to have your ovaries removed. I have had ovarian assists a few times and my mother had them so frequently and sever that she finally had her ovaries removed. You should talk to your doctor about your case and get their advice. Also you definitley need to have the bump checked out that does not sound like an assist for you cannot see assists. you might have some sort of growth or tumor. see your doctor ASAP!
Reply:Firstly, if you are taking oestrogen; stop it. Second, you need to see a gynaecologist. You cannot self diagnose this problem it is too complex. I had endometriosis (very painful) ended up having one ovary removed and a cyst taken off the other ovary. please see a specialist as this can be life threatening CANCER.
