Cysts on Ovaries?

I'm 15 and I recently went to my docter for a ultrasound, while i was there, the docter decided to do my first pelvic exam. They could get a clear picture of my left ovary and everything was fine. My right one howveer ahs a cyst formed on it. The docter's aren't too to concerned about it, but i am to come back to see if it goes away inabout 6-7 weeks.

The docter's said that i probaly had these things for a while, and that they can cause some pain and discomfort (Whihc i have expirenced, but was told i was consitapated.).

What i'm wondering is what are cysts? Are the serious, and if they cyst thta is on my ovary is still there when i gte back, and is larger, would they use surgey to remove it?I should also mention that i don't ahve ym period is that helps.

Anything you can tell me will be very helpful.

Thanks.

Cysts on Ovaries?
Cysts can be defined as a collection of fluids and semi-fluid substances in a cavity within the body formed as a result of some abnormalities. Cyst is formed within a sac and it has a distinct membrane and it develops abnormally.

Cysts can occur on any location in the body, but there are certain common body parts that get affected by cysts. Each cyst is known by different names based on the location they are found in including ganglion cyst at tendons and joints, ovarian cyst at ovaries, pilonidal cyst at the skin near tailbone, renal cyst on kidneys, radicular cyst at the roots of teeth, keratocyst in the jaws, and glial cyst in the brain.

There are some other forms of cysts also including paratubal cyst, vocal fold cyst, bronchial cyst, Tarlov cyst, and dentigerous cyst.

A single cyst found in the body during a medical examination may usually be harmless, but if a number of cysts are found in any organ they need to be tested further as there is a chance for a disease or major infection in that particular organ.
Reply:Not serious at all, just can be "bothersome".

Not a surgery to remove it (unless it's like huge)---they usually just dilate you and poke it right there in the dr's office. Make sure your mom is there to hold your hand--it doesnt hurt, its just about as uncomfortable as the original exam was.
Reply:i have PCOS too.. but... why didnt u ask the doctor?
Reply:I had a Cysts when I was 19. If worse to comes worse. It is a simple procedure. No surgery. They just go in through your Virgina and freeze it a few times to kill it. No, it does not hurt, just a bit uncomfortable. Good luck!
Reply:ovarian cysts are simply put just fluid filled sacs on the ovaries. some collapse on themselves usually in between cycles, which causes pain. there are other kinds and I suggest you do some research before your next appointment. But most of the time there are no surgeries involved. Just moderate pain usually relieved with Motrin
Reply:Ovarian cysts occur when a follicle (which would normally realease an egg at ovulation) fills with fluid instead of releasing an egg. These occur quite frequently %26amp; are more than likely harmless unless they rupture. If they rupture it can cause quite a bit of pain, but the only medical treatment is pain meds. If they are large or there are several of tehm, they may chose to surgically remove them. They can cause infertility issues.

Reply:if it ruptures then its serious it has some fluid in it that can spread and it is very very painful. i had one and it ruptured and i was in pain so i went to the emergency and i had to stay over night and gave me medicine for the pain. they said if it didnt go away they would have to do surgery. so you should ask about that
