Cysts on dog?

My dog has had 2 cysts before and the vet drained them for me. Today, I was petting him and felt this dry, rough, matted stuff on his back between his shoulders. I looked and it was brown and really hard. I cleaned it really good and got all the hard stuff away from the skin. I cleaned it and put antibiotic on it for infection. Is this typical of a ruptured cyst. If it doesn't look better, I will take him to the vet tomorrow. I also put a bandage on it so he didn't scratch and make it bleed. The skin is so raw and if he scratches it, it will start bleeding.
