Ovarian cysts?

My stomach was swollen last week, I woke up at 5am friday morning in agony. The pain was in my lower abdomen mainly on the left side. I have had a cyst before however the pain only lasted for about 5 hours, I went to the A%26amp;E who told me what it was but there was nothing much they could do about it. This time I went to the walk in centre after 7 hours, they confirmed that it was an ovarian cyst and prescribed strong painkillers (which did nothing)

Its now monday, although the intense pain is gone, I am still in pain, feel heavy and full and it hurts when walk and is intense when I go to the toilet. I am getting concerned now that it may be something more serious, have a doctors appt later today. Is it normal to still be in some pain after a few days??

Ovarian cysts?
Have the doc do a sonogram again today.

Also, since your stomach was swollen, I'd ask for a possible biopsy of the cyst to make sure it is JUST a cyst.

Be sure to not do anything too streneous until you get some definite answers, if a cyst twist then it can cut off blood supply to your ovary which is life-threatening!

I don't know if you're on birth control or not, but it probably is the best thing to do to control cysts (as there is no cure!)

Get some answers...pain pills are great for right now, but you need more than just that.

If you are on birth control then they might switch types (b/c not all birth controls are good for women with ovarian cysts) and if you do decide to get on it (which is recommended) then the cyst usually will dissolve. If not, a laproscopy surgery is usually performed (minor surgery, no worries). Good luck, girl.
Reply:Doctor may give you an internal examination and then refer you up to hospital, this happened to me a few years ago.

You should be given an ultrasound scan, if the cyst is large enough they will drain/remove it under a general anaesthetic during a laparoscopy (keyhole surgery through an incision underneath your bellybutton.
Reply:I've heard that some people are in pain all the time with ovarian cyst. I would get a second opinion with a Dr. Sometimes if the pain is constant and debilitating then surgery is usually required to remove the cyst. I was having pain myself in my ovaries yesterday. I read some information about them online. My pain is never severe and I take pain medicine too. I also take NSAIDs which are Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs. This helps with both swelling and pain. Usually after 20 minutes of taking the medicine the pain is gone. I hope you the best!
