Ovarian Cysts?

I called my doctor today about some pretty bad cramping. I am on the third week of my first pack of birth control as well. She just started me as an attempt to get my periods straightened out. The nurse told me that my ultrasound had shown a small cyst on my right ovary. My question is if anyone else has cysts how long does the pain last. The nurse told me that maybe it was dissolving as I have had some bleeding and some clotting coming out. It just seems that the pain continues and I was not sure how long was normal.

Ovarian Cysts?
It can last a while. It is according to how big it is. I have had them for about 14 years. It can last (the pain)anywhere from a day to 4-5 days. You can take 800 mg of ibuprofen and then alternate Tylenol. Don't take the ibuprofen more than twice a day or more than 1600 mg in a day. Taking a hot shower or fixing a hot pack and putting it where it hurts will help, too. That is all the thing my doctor told me to do. The birth control should have it cleared up soon. It made mine go away. I found out I had them when I was 15 yrs. old and my doc gave me BCP. They worked good until I had to stop the pill because of poor blood circulation. Watch out for that. I only weighed 105 lbs. so you don't have to be overweight to get it. Most people don't have any problems! Good Luck! Hope the cyst go away.

They have to be really large to have to have surgery! Don't worry!
Reply:There are normal cysts that form on a woman's ovaries every month. They decrease in size when your period begins. However, keep a close eye on any cyst that is found to monitor growth.

Cyst pain varies from woman to woman. Some women experience no pain, while others can experience pain for several weeks. If you pain continues too long, make an appt. with your Gyn just to be safe.
Reply:i had a similiar situation but mines was caused by PCOS i have little holes cyst on on my ovaries, I had the real bad pain and cramps but mines got so intense i had to be rushed the ER. you may want to get checked out more. if you have abnormal periods thats a sign of PCOS but who would know till you get a full check up. Hope everything turns out fine.
Reply:Anything can be normal. Most cysts disolve when you get your period but the few that don't then occasionally you need surgury to remove them. As for the pain. It can last a couple of weeks but I would say if it lasts a month to call your doctor back.
Reply:When I was first put on birth control. I started developig cysts on my left ovary. My period lasted for 15 days and I was in the most excruciating pain for atleast a month. Eventually after my gyno realized the cysts werent going away he did a Laparoscopy (out poatient surgey) to biopsy the cysts. After the surgery I was pain free and permenately taken off birth control they decided I must have been allergic to it. You might want to talk to your doctor about the surgery or get off the BC.
