Cysts on your ovaries?
I'm going through the same thing. I'm having the surgery in Sept. First, they'll probably try putting you on birth control. A lot of times if you don't ovulate the cysts shrink. If that doesn't work they might try another hormone, or go ahead and do the surgery. Don't worry the surgery that they do is usually a laparoscopic, and it's outpatient. I hope everything works out.
Reply:No, they usually do not do anything for them. One way that will help with the pain and the periods though is to go on the pill. I know you are probably not having sex, but you will see a huge improvement if you do.
Reply:I think that this is something you should be talking with you mom, maybe she will be able to clear up all of your worries
Reply:You probably wont have to have surgery. Like you when I was 12 I had a cyst on my ovary and they told me that it would probably go away on its own or possibly rupture. Mine ruptured which did not cause me to have surgery, but it was painful and caused some bleeding. Try taking an over the counter medicine for the pain. Also, going on the pill may help. I didn't go on it because my mom felt I was too young for it, but you should talk to you mom about it and see if she thinks it will be beneficial for you.
Reply:Several of my friends have had ovarian cysts. They both had to have surgery, but I've been told that they can go away on their own.

The surgery itself is pretty common, and only requires a day in the hospital and maybe two weeks recovery.

One of my friends had to have an ovary completely removed, but it didn't effect the chances of her getting pregnant. She has a 6 month old son :)
Reply:Yah 3" is kinda big. I had a cyst on my ovary before too. I was having bad pain and I could feel heaviness and like a "full" feeling in the ovary area when I walked, jumped or stepped hard :/ My dr. examined me and he said the ovary was the size of a lemon! He put me on birth control and sure enough it shrunk down. I guess it's not there anymore. Not to worry there are many things that are available for help nowadays. You shouldn't have to have surgery since there are other options available before drastic measures are taken and even if you end up having to have surgery, I'm sure everything will be fine and you'll feel much better in the end :) Good luck to you!
Reply:Don't worry, honey.

Ovaries produce cysts naturally as part of your reproductive cycle. You are one of the unlucky ladies that has some painful ovulation, or too many cysts. This can be a nuisance, but it not going threaten your life. The word cyst sounds scary, but it you are going to be just fine.

Try looking up ovarian cysts on WebMD.

Also, if you are still worried, talk to your mom and ask her to set up an appointment with an OB/GYN nurse practitioner to talk about your concerns. OB/GYN means a specialist in women's health, and that is the area you are having trouble with. A nurse practitioner can do many of the things a doctor can, and usually can take more time to help you understand your condition and any treatments that may be available for you.
Reply:cyst wont go by itself you should have laporascopy first then if your doctor can't take care of it with laporascopy he will do laporatomy. laporascopy is easy you can go home same day. they open a small hole next to your belly and they go in to your tommy from that hole they do surgery. laporatomy is one more step you will have 6 inch opening below your tommy it takes 6 weeks to recover. it is easy dont be scared. i had it. for your future have it done sooner.
Reply:i had that last year.. the doc put me on the pills for 6 months.. that didnt work.. than he put me on danazol for 6 months.. which stopped my period for 6 months.. then its cleared. but i also have a friend who go ahead w/ the surgery.. and they're ok now.. ur gynae can list doen ur options for u... good luck %26amp; dont worry ok?
Reply:I'm sure you will have a followup sonogram in a few weeks since most of these will go away on their own according to different parts of your cycle. You say its 3 inches-most sono measurements are in centimeters (although the Dr may have translated it for you into inches. A 3 inch cyst would certainly be significant large, however a 3 CENTIMETER cyst is just a little larger than the majority of ovarian cysts that normally occur at mid-point of your cycle-just before ovulation. Most women will unknowingly get about a 2 centimeter cyst at that time-just not usually big enough to give problems. These cyclical cysts contain the stimulated egg in which will either become fertilized at pregnancy or be unfertilized which will "slide-out" at your next period. I would not be surprised that if you do hvae a history of large cysts, that the Dr. will put you on the "pill"-it has multiple purposes-not just avoiding pregnancy-it will hopefully stop the formation of these cysts and usually helps control the periods better........Best of luck !!
