I have a lump in my armpit and it started off as the size of a pinhead. The Dr said it was a harmless cyst?

It has now grown to be about 2cm across and 5cm long. What do you think is happening to it and is it still likely to be harmless?

Seek a second opinion. When you can see it changing in size or shape it's always best to go back. I honestly can't believe your doctor didn't schedule a follow up visit with you for it or tell you to come back if you notice a change in size.

I was 16 when I had a lump the size of a golfball removed from my breast so you're never to young to be concerned and surgery is never fun.

I wish you the best.
Reply:I'd get a second opinion
Reply:Check with another doctor this question is to important to

be asked by non-professionals.

good luck
Reply:Go back to the Doctor.
Reply:Go back to the doctor %26amp; let him know that it's grown. Most likely it's still a cyst, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
Reply:Yes, I have had that years ago, its one of the major point for drainage for the lyphatic system, mine was painful and very swollen as I recall, but went away.

But if in any doubt get a second opinion, especially if is has altered in size, "if in doubt, check it out".

Dont mess with your health.

Reply:It's entirely possible. I knew a girl once who had an ovarian cyst and looked 9 months pregnant! The Dr had told her it was a cyst but she wanted a baby so bad she wouldn't listen till the baby didn't come.

Has your Dr done a biopsy?

Just call and explain that you are nervous and worried and that you would like some more tests to calm down..

If he doens't listen to you, find anohter Dr.
Reply:Get a second opinion anyways. No matter how much you may trust your MD, its your health and you must take every precaution to maintain it. I hope it works out alright for you.
Reply:You could get a 2nd opinion if you are concerned.
Reply:had one once stayed small for ages then started swelling doc said it was abbsess just told me to use a bread poltice it worked a treat. drew it out and it never came back.
Reply:get it checked out again...
Reply:It's most likely that it is entirely harmless. However, you seem to be worried about it so there's absolutely no harm in seeking a second (or even third!) opinion; book another appointment but specify that you want to see somebody different this time! You could always ask if they could remove it for you; my dad had a cyst (nothing bad) and they removed it for him...

Hope this helped

Reply:it could be but if it is growing you should go back to your doctor and ask for a referal to a breast specialist. Request an ultrasound on it not just a mamogram. The ultrasound is more accurate. (They can see it better)

Good luck, I hope it goes well!
Reply:If it is growing in size then it is not harmless. Get it removed as early as possible.
Reply:. . . watched a repeat programme on tv last night about a boy who was carrying his twin - you never know - there again, it could be just another arm . . .
Reply:i got one like that when i was pregnant. the doc said that it was excess breast milk. but now 10 years later it is still there it just no longer contains milk. All of my doc said that i can have it removed if i want to it was up to me, it is harmless though.
Reply:see another dockter at another place
Reply:It depends. If it is painful and ful of pus (give it a firm squeeze to see if it expels any liquid) then it could be an absess. If not it could stil be a cyst and nothing to worry about. However, it could be breast cancer or a problem with your lymph nodes, without more info it's impossible to say. Please go back to the doctor and say that it has changed so you would like him to check. Any dr worth his salt won't mind you going back if you are concerned.
Reply:Have you had a mamography or ultrasound? Tell your doc you want a needle biopsy, a simple office procedure to test the tissue for cancer cells. It's your health.
Reply:see doc!!!
Reply:go back to the Dr and show him and ask again, i do have them come up on me from time to time
Reply:Girls or guys get these when they shave thier armpits. It's like a rash, don't play with it either. leave it alone, you should visit a doctor if its getting big. I hear myths about it, if you pop it you can get cancer, but i dont think it's true, but maybe you should get it checked. I have a few of those and it's fine, just wear a lot of lotion it should help it heal.
Reply:Hi

It's best to go back to your doctor or a different doctor and get it checked out again for your own reassurance.

Breast tissue goes all the way under your armpit so it's always best to get any lumps checked out.

Sometimes shaving can cause painful lumps or else the lymph nodes can swell if there is any infection in the surrounding area.

Its probably nothing serious but it's always best to ask for a second opinion or get it rechecked as there have been changes.

Good Luck!
Reply:well if the Dr's says its a cyst then its a cyst but i would see your nurse for 2ND option
Reply:I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse. Lumps under the armpit can also indicate BREAST CANCER That idiot of a doctor should know this, he should have sent you up for a scan. You may well have a cyst or swollen glands, indicating another problem. Unless your Dr has got X RAY eyes, I would insist he send you for a scan If it is serious then you are wasting time, time that you may need to save your life. If you listen to the Dr's nowadays, you will end up dead
